【tonoさんコラボ商品発売記念！】アーティスト・tonoさん特別インタビュー – 愛らしいイラストのルーツにある、tonoさんがずっと好きなもの
アート作品と陶器を融合させた、m.m.d.の新しいチャレンジ、「Art Pottery」シリーズ。
UV印刷という技法を使用して、陶器にアート作品をプリントした複製原画をはじめ、転写メーカーと協業し、転写によってアート作品を精巧に再現した食器を発信しています。
陶器の風合いを生かしたまま、まるで素材にそのまま絵筆で描かれたかのような質感を楽しむことができます。
The “Art Pottery” series is m.m.d.’s new challenge, fusing artwork and ceramics.
In collaboration with a transfer manufacturer, m.m.d. has produced tableware that elaborately reproduces art works by transferring them, including original reproductions of art works printed on ceramics using a technique called UV printing.
The texture of the ceramic can be enjoyed as if it were painted directly on the material with a paintbrush, while maintaining the texture of the ceramic.

東京都在住の画家・イラストレーター。幻想的な作風が特徴で、国内外を問わず多くの支持を集めている。 2020年に「tono作品集 Half moon」を出版。A painter and illustrator living in Tokyo. His works are characterized by a fantastical style and have attracted a large following both in Japan and abroad. In 2020, he published “tono works Half moon”.

今回のご制作いただいたイラストについて、こだわりなどあれば教えてください。
Please tell us about the illustrations you produced for this project.
この作品は、猫の家族をテーマにした作品をいくつか制作していた中の1枚です。
石の階段と木漏れ日の中にいる猫たちを描きたいと思い、母猫と子猫たちが散歩中の猫のレディと出会う様子を描きました。
This piece was one of several that I was working on with a cat family theme. I wanted to depict cats on a stone staircase and through the trees, with a mother cat and her kittens meeting Lady the cat on a walk.
なぜ「猫の家族」をテーマに選ばれたのでしょうか？
Why did you choose the “cat family” theme?
黒い子猫を描いていた時に、その家族の姿を描いたら楽しいだろうと思ったことがきっかけです。 大変多くの反響をいただいたので、連作として発表しました。
I was drawing a black kitten and thought it would be fun to draw its family. I received so many positive responses that I decided to present them as a series of paintings.
猫はtonoさんのイラストによく現れるモチーフですよね。
Cats are a motif that often appears in tono’s illustrations.
もともと猫が好きなんです。前に住んでいた家に、毎日のように地域猫４匹（黒猫・茶トラ・キジ白２匹）が遊びにきてくれていました。茶トラ以外は兄弟と聞いたのですが、それぞれ性格がこんなに違うのかと驚いたことを覚えています。
そのときから猫が好きで、いつか猫と暮らすことが夢です。
I have always liked cats..In my previous house, four stray cats (a black cat, a brown tiger, and two pheasant whites) came to visit me every day. I was told that all but the brown tiger were brothers, but I remember being surprised at how different their personalities were.
I have loved cats ever since then, and it is my dream to live with cats someday.
今回のご制作いただいたイラストについて、どのような技法を使用されていますか？
What techniques did you use for the illustrations you produced for this project?
すべてデジタルで描いていますが、私はアナログのような表現が好きで、テクスチャを加えたり、新しいブラシを取り入れたりしています。
木漏れ日をテーマにする際には、モネやルノワールなどの印象派の光の表現に憧れ、それを取り入れられないかと試みました。光と影が美しく調和するように心がけています。
Although I paint everything digitally, I like to use analog-like expressions, adding textures and incorporating new brushes.
When working on the theme of sunlight filtering through the trees, I admired the expression of light by impressionists such as Monet and Renoir, and tried to see if I could incorporate that into my work. I try to create a beautiful harmony of light and shadow.
この作品を描いた時期はぼかしの表現を初めて取り入れた頃で、洋服の皺や影など、新たな表現を増やすことができて嬉しかったのを覚えています。
The time when I painted this work was when I first introduced blurring, and I remember how happy I was to be able to add new expressions such as wrinkles and shadows on the clothes.
デフォルメされた愛らしいキャラクターから、幻想的な印象を受ける独特の作風だと感じます。強く影響を受けたアーティストはいらっしゃいますか？
I feel that your style is unique, with deformed and adorable characters that give a fantastic impression. Are there any artists who have strongly influenced your work?
ピーターラビットや不思議の国のアリスが子どもの頃から好きです。写真家でもあるルイス・キャロルの写真集を見たり、イギリスのヴィクトリア時代の風景写真や服装を参考にしたりしています。
I have loved Peter Rabbit and Alice in Wonderland since childhood. I also look at the photo books of Lewis Carroll, who is also a photographer, and refer to landscape photography and clothing from the Victorian era in England.
ものづくりをされる際に大切にされていることを教えてくださいませ。
Please tell us what is important to you when you are making things.
感動するものを探し続けること。写真や絵画、小説、映画、音楽など、まだ知らない素晴らしい作品が世界にはたくさんあるので、さまざまな作品に触れて感動することで、自分自身を成長させていけたら素晴らしいなと思っています。
To keep searching for things that move me. There are so many wonderful works of art in the world that I have yet to discover, such as photographs, paintings, novels, movies, and music, so it would be wonderful if I could develop myself by experiencing and being moved by a wide variety of works.
今後の活動について、チャレンジしてみたいことや現在興味を持っていることなど教えてください。
Please tell us about your future activities, what challenges you would like to take on and what you are currently interested in.
以前から物語を作ってみたいと思っていて少しずつ設定をまとめています。また、ペン画でのタッチも模索しています。
小さなスケッチ帳とペンを持ち歩いてふとした時に気の向くままにアイデアをスケッチするのも楽しみの一つです。
I have been wanting to create a story for some time and am slowly putting together a setting.
I am also exploring the touch with pen drawings.
I enjoy carrying around a small sketchpad and pen and sketching ideas whenever I feel like it.

UV印刷という技法を用いて、まっさらな陶器にアート作品を印刷している「複製原画」シリーズ。イラストをお願いしたのは、アーティストのtonoさん。
「Morning Walk」と題した作品は、tonoさん独自の美意識が伝わる、細部までこだわって製作されたイラストに、いつまでも飽きずにお使いいただけます。
The “Reproduction Original Artwork” series uses a technique called UV printing to print artwork on plain ceramic ware. The illustration was created by artist tono.
The work titled “Morning Walk” conveys tono’s unique sense of beauty, and the illustrations, produced with great attention to detail, will keep you entertained for a long time to come.

さらに「Morning Walk」をモチーフにした、書き下ろしイラストのマグカップも販売開始します。
焼きものの名産地・瀬戸で「かけわけ」という伝統的な技法を用いて製作されているマグカップは、焼きものの良さを感じられるシンプルなうつわです。
In addition, mugs with newly written illustrations featuring the “Morning Walk” motif will also be available.
The mugs are produced using the traditional “kakewake” technique in Seto, a place famous for its pottery, and are simple vessels that allow you to feel the quality of the pottery.
マグカップは、240ml〜280ml程度を注いでいただけるコンパクトサイズで、デスクなど限られたスペースにもフィットします。
ぽってりとした厚みがあり、口当たりがよく使いやすいです。
陶器のプリントは、確かな転写技術を持つメーカーさんと協業し、細かな線まで再現することができました。繊細な線で描かれた生き生きとしたキャラクターに、思わず笑顔がこぼれます。
The mug is compact enough to pour about 240-280 ml and fits in a limited space such as a desk. It is chunky, thick, and easy to use with a good feel in the mouth.
The ceramic print was made in cooperation with a manufacturer that possesses reliable transfer technology and was able to reproduce even the finest lines. The lively characters drawn with delicate lines will bring a smile to your face.
